What is Counselling?

Counselling and psychotherapy are talking therapies that offer a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. They can help you better understand yourself, work through difficulties, and develop healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges.

Counselling or Psychotherapy?

Although the terms are often used together, they describe slightly different approaches:

Counselling is often focused on specific issues or current difficulties, such as stress, relationship problems, loss, anxiety, or life transitions. It can help you gain clarity, process emotions, and find ways forward.

Psychotherapy tends to explore deeper or longer-standing patterns, including how past experiences may be influencing your present life, relationships, or sense of self. It can support long-term personal growth, emotional healing, and lasting change.

In practice, both counselling and psychotherapy are collaborative processes. You are not given advice or judged. Instead, I work alongside you, listening carefully and helping you reflect, make sense of your experiences, and find your own answers at a pace that feels right for you.

People seek counselling or psychotherapy for many reasons, including:

  • Anxiety, depression, or low mood

  • Stress or burnout

  • Relationship or family difficulties

  • Loss, grief, or trauma

  • Low self-esteem or confidence

  • Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected

You do not need to be in crisis to benefit. Many people come simply to understand themselves better or to create positive change in their lives.
